The 15 Best Supplement Brands of 2020: Shop Smarter!

If you’re new to the world of supplements, it can get a little overwhelming. It seems like every time you turn around, there’s a new supplement (or supplement company) that’s about to launch.

And each of have a line of supplements or bulking supplement stacks that make you stronger, trim you down, and everything else in between.

Making matters worse, there are quite a few less than reputable supplement companies out there. I should know, a few of them have ripped me off in the past.

Thinking about that, I wanted to make a list of the best supplement brands of 2020.

The Top 15 Supplement Brands of 2020 (in Alphabetical Order)

best supplement brands

We don’t want to waste your time with lengthy introductions. To avoid any type of favoritism (intentional or otherwise), this list is in alphabetical order. The research that went into this list was based on reviews and ratings from popular bodybuilding stores and review aggregators.

Let’s get into the list!

1. 3D Energy Drinks

Chances are, you’ve heard about energy drinks before. You might even enjoy them, I know I do. Unfortunately, many energy drink companies are filling their cans with junk ingredients and lots of sugars. This leads to empty calories and sugar rushes that wears off fast.

Being that you’re interested in supplements, it’s a safe bet to assume you care what goes into your body. If you’re looking for a better way to energize yourself, check out 3D Energy Drinks.

3d energyEach 16 oz can of 3D contains 200 milligrams of caffeine and only 15 calories. This company’s drinks contain sucralose instead of sugar, which is a much healthier option.

Of course, taste and ingredients are important when choosing an energy drink. But it’s understandable to also want something that looks cool. If so, you’ll love 3D Energy Drinks’ cans. Each flavor of this beverage comes in a brightly colored can.

Cotton candy comes in a pink can, Sunburst in an orange one, Frost in a white can. (You get the idea.)

2. Animal

You don’t have to comb through this website before coming across one of my Animal supplement reviews. No, I’m not sponsored by them. But I’m far from the only person who loves this supplement brand.

Something I’ve always loved about Animal is that it’s a no BS company. Animal doesn’t need flashy advertisements or deals with celebrities. Instead, this company simply sells supplements that work.

One of the supplements this company is well-known for is Animal Pak. Let’s just say, there’s a reason why Animal Pak pops up everywhere when you search for a multivitamin supplement. This company also sells Animal Flex, an excellent joint health supplement.

3. BSN

It’s tough to have a list of the best supplement brands of 2020 (or any year, for that matter) without mentioning BSN (Bio-Engineered Supplements). This supplement company makes just about everything including protein powders, pre-workouts, weight gainers, BCAA supplements, and much more.

In the past 10 years that I’ve been plugged into online bodybuilding communities, BSN has always been around. You can tell that BSN and its employees care about what they do and they enjoy it.

BSN began in 2001. Since this time, this company has won over 35 awards in the sports nutrition industry. After trying one of BSN’s supplements, it’s easy to see why.

4. EFX Sports

Some of the most successful companies form with missions to change an industry. This is what happened when the minds behind EFX Sports got together. Sick and tired of seeing shady supplement companies ripping people off, EFX Sports began

This company wanted to make supplements for people with real goals (not just 350-pound bodybuilders with 2% body fat and veins popping out of every square inch of their skin).

Many people know this company because of its Kre Alkalyn EFX supplement. I would also recommend checking out EAA if you’re looking for a good intra-workout product.

5. FitMiss

In the past, it was pretty easy to see that the supplement world was one made up of testosterone and lots of macho men. FitMiss helped change this by creating workout supplements designed for busy women.

I’m not a woman myself, but I love the awesome pink and black design of this company’s products. Popular supplements from this company include FitMiss Burn and FitMess Delight.

6. Gaspari Nutrition

Gaspari Nutrition began in 1998 by a major name in the bodybuilding world: Rich Gaspari. You probably know this name well, Rich Gaspari was the first winner of the original 1989 Arnold Classic. He’s also won countless other bodybuilding events including Mr. Universe and Mr. America.

After retiring from the world of bodybuilding, Rich Gaspari took his passion and founded Gaspari Nutrition. With science-backed ingredients, you’re getting quality supplements by choosing this company. I’m a big fan of SuperPump Max, a powerful pre-workout supplement.

Want to know how awesome Gaspari Nutrition is? I can’t remember the year, but this is all archived on a certain popular bodybuilding forum. Anyways, Gaspari Nutrition always helped awesome contests and gave away awesome stuff to the winners. And I was one of the winners!

I’m too embarrassed at the picture to tell any of you what it was. But if anyone wants to know, I can probably track it down. It was lame, but Gaspari Nutrition was nice enough to pick me as one of their winners.

7. Labrada Nutrition

One of the all-time legends in the bodybuilding world, Lee Labrada has been on the cover of hundreds of fitness magazines and center stage at many of the largest bodybuilding events out there.

I feel motivated if I’m able to get myself out of bed and into the gym. Lee Labrada motivated the entire town of Houston, Texas to get in better shape in 2002. I’m getting off track here, back to Labrada Nutrition.

Founded in 1995, this company quickly became a big name in the supplement industry. Labrada Nutrition promises high-quality supplements with ingredients backed by science. These supplements also taste good, receiving multiple awards from the American Culinary Institute.

This company makes a lot of supplements, unfortunately, I haven’t tried them all yet. However, I have tried the Lean Body RTD (ready to drink) products and love those, especially the mint chocolate and salted caramel flavors.

8. Maximum Human Performance (MHP)

Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for most consumers to encounter a supplement that doesn’t taste very great. MHP knows this, which is why it works to include the best possible flavor combinations into its supplements. Also, MHP manufactures all of its supplements in GMP facilities.

Something else I like about MHP is that several of its supplements are certified as Trusted by Sport. This means these products were tested for any banned substances and none were found.

9. Outbreak Nutrition

If there’s a company on this list that knows how to brand itself the best, it could be Outbreak Nutrition. All of their supplements have a post-apocalyptic theme that I love. But this company is about much more than a great theme, it also makes some seriously awesome supplements.

If you’re looking for something to get you up and into the gym, there’s the Pathogen pre-workout supplement. Dealing with low T? You might benefit from trying Outbreak Nutrition’s Rise testosterone booster.

I also like that this company is one of several including CBD in their supplements. I’ve got to admit this company’s CBD + Focus supplement is looking mighty good as I’m getting near the end of this post.

10. PEScience

I’m a firm believer that a company doesn’t need gimmicky products and lots of flash to succeed in the supplement industry. The supplement company PEScience knows this, too. Instead of focusing on marketing and false promises, PEScience works to provide scientifically proven supplements.

This company also takes every step of the supplement manufacturing process seriously. Each of its supplements is made, stored, packed, and distributed in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) facilities. Few, if any supplement companies can make that kind of promise.

You’ll never have to worry about running out of PEScience supplements to try. This company makes just about everything including protein supplements, pre-workouts, amino acids, and much more.

One of PEScience’s many standout supplements is Select Protein. Each serving has 24 grams of protein and only 2 carbs.

11. Promera Sports

Promera Sports began in 2002. During this time, scientists made a breakthrough that led to the formation of CON-CRET. Now, you can find CON-CRET as a stand out supplement on its own or in other supplement company’s products

I’ve been a huge fan of CON-CRET for almost a decade. But this company does have many popular supplements to offer. There’s BURN, which is a fat-burning supplement featuring natural pepper fruit extract to boost your metabolism.

This company also makes a nitric oxide supplement called PUMP that’s good for getting, well, a better muscle pump than normal.

12. Pro Supps

Based out of Texas, Pro Supps is another supplement company that definitely deserves to be on this list. Pro Supps is the company behind popular workout supplements including Mr. Hyde, Dr. Jekyll, and PS Whey. I’ve tried each of the pre-workouts (trying the protein soon) and I loved them both.

Mr. Hyde is this company’s line of pre-workout supplements with caffeine. On the other, Dr. Jekyll supplements are “stim-free,” meaning they contain no caffeine. I love it when supplement companies go the extra mile and put thought like this into the names of their products.

This company is also 100% pure class. When I had more time and fewer obligations, I spent a lot of time on a popular bodybuilding forum I mentioned earlier. During that time, many Pro Supps reps were on this forum. They were all super cool people that cared about the bodybuilding/fitness community.

To say that there are many protein brands in the world is an understatement. With that said, certain protein supplements contain lots of sugars and “filler” ingredients. Fortunately for us, RIVALUS doesn’t believe in selling low-quality supplements.

This supplement company focuses on effective and quality ingredients. Rival Whey, Native Pro 100, and Iso-Clean are a few of RIVALUS’ most popular proteins. RIVALUS also makes Plant Pro 100, which is a 100% plant-based protein.

RIVALUS ensures that all of its athletes used in marketing materials undergo regular drug screening. This is part of RIVALUS’ efforts to stop the confusion and disappointment in the bodybuilding industry around body image.

This was an issue I hadn’t thought about until I began writing about RIVALUS. But it’s an issue that I admit to dealing with, and I know lots of others feel this same way. Good on you, RIVALUS for making this industry a little more honest!

14. The Genius Brand

I sometimes refer to myself as a “fitness nerd.” It’s an outdated term, but it means that I like looking over ingredient labels. Being that I like knowing what’s in my supplements, I’m more than happy to include The Genius Brand on this list.

The Genius Brand is the company I wished was around when I started lifting around 2010. During this time, there was SO MUCH misinformation out there that it felt like a job sorting through all of it.

Fortunately, The Genius Brand is helping to take care of this giant misinformation problem by putting science and ingredient effectiveness ahead of false claims and flashy advertising. This company also has some of the coolest supplement lines I’ve seen in a long time.

When I’m not working out, as you can probably tell, I write. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Genius Consciousness and Genius Joy. I’m definitely going to get one of these and throw up a review in the near future.

Since you’re probably wanting to know about the sports nutrition side of things, The Genius Brand offers a lot of good stuff. Popular supplements from this company include Genius Pre, Genius Muscle, and Genius Creatine Power Matrix.

15. VMI Sports

In the supplement world, it’s easy for the “average” person to feel left out. This is something that VMI Sports knows all too well, which is why they make real supplements for real results.

Whether you’re a pro bodybuilder or someone that just wants to up your performance, VMI Sports probably has a supplement for you. One of VMI Sports’ most popular supplements is its K-XR Pre-Workout. Let me tell you, this one is intense! If you don’t like or can’t have caffeine, you might enjoy PUMP-XR.

When it comes to the protein flavor VMI Sports offers, let’s just say I hope you’re sitting down. As of right now, VMI Sports offers a Marshmallow Charms flavored protein powder! Other popular flavors include Peanut Butter Cookies & Cream, Vanilla Cake Batter, and Chocolate Fudge Cookie.

In conclusion, there are lots of supplement brands out there. However, not all supplement brands are everything they would have you believe. Fortunately, there are still many companies working hard to help people get better results and, ultimately, live healthier lives.
